1.5 and 2 Terabyte Drives from Western Digital

Western Digital today announced the availability of 1.5 and 2 terabyte hard drives in its WD Caviar Green family of products. The drives are designed for use as USB/FireWire/eSATA external hard drives, inside desktop computers, workstations, and as part of desktop RAID environments. The drive includes a mechanism that reduces system-induced vibration and stabilizes platters for accurate tracking during read and write operations, power management technology that fine-tunes the balance of spin speed, seek speed, transfer rate and caching algorithms to reduce energy consumption. Another feature ensures the recording head never touches the disk, which results in significantly less wear on the drive and better protection while in transit, the company claimed in a news release.


The WD Caviar Green 2 TB is available at select resellers and distributors. MSRP for the WD Caviar Green 2 TB hard drives (model WD20EADS) is $299.00 USD.
