No, that’s not a typo.
According to The Seattle Times, Microsoft revealed the newest version of its operating system at a press event Tuesday morning.
“Windows 10 represents the first step of a whole new generation of Windows,” Terry Myerson, head of Microsoft’s operating systems group, said of the name.
Windows 10 will run on phones, tablets and computers of all sizes — but unlike Windows 8, it will vary depending on what hardware is using it. Windows 8 was criticized by some for forcing touch-friendly controls and interfaces on computers that couldn’t take advantage of it.
While the tiles of Windows 8 will remain, they will be more customizable in Windows 10, according to The Seattle Times. A Microsoft executive showed a demonstration of the new OS, which marks the return of the Start menu. The new start menu combines a list of most-used apps from previous versions with a section full of Windows 8-style tiles.
In a previous report, Microsoft Indonesia’s president, Andreas Diantoro, confirmed that the followup to Windows 8 would be free, unlike previous versions of Windows.
