Governor Schwarzenegger Declares State of Emergency in Seven California Counties

"creates conditions of imminent peril to those living near the levees, to the environment, businesses, and the critical life support systems, such as drinking water"

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Monday declared a state of emergency in the counties of Amador, Calaveras, Fresno, Merced, San Joaquin, San Mateo and Stanislaus, as a result of a series of severe rainstorms and flooding in that area that commenced on April 4, 2006.

In a proclamation, Schwarzenegger said that heavy rains and poor condition of the levees, "creates conditions of imminent peril to those living near the levees, to the environment, businesses, and the critical life support systems, such as drinking water."

Schwarzenegger directed "all agencies of the state government to utilize and employ state personnel, equipment and facilities for the performance of any and all necessary activities to alleviate this emergency as directed by my Office of Emergency Services and in accordance with the State Emergency Plan."
