At www.lafd.org, there’s also a search field for finding the nearest fire stations (searchable by ZIP code), as well as information on fire safety tips, local events and ways to volunteer and get involved with the community. Visitors also may sign up for alerts and access the fire department’s social media.
LAFD noted the new website is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and federal Section 508, and said new features will be added in the coming months, such as an intranet which will help the department communicate better internally, linking communication across stations and LAFD units throughout the city.
The $250,000-plus website project was funded entirely by the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.
“In recent years, the bulk of our funding has gone directly to the front lines for necessary equipment and personnel to keep our community safe,” said Fire Chief Ralph M. Terrazas in a statement. “It is only through the generous donation from the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and their funders that we now have a website representative of the great city we serve.”
