Today all documents filed with the court requiring signatures must be filed in paper format. This process is costly and inefficient as overnight courier service is used for document delivery and it makes it difficult for multiple people to access the documents.
The new electronic filing system allows the Supreme Court to accept digitally signed court filing documents from attorneys. The process of adding signature to the electronic document being filed is controlled by the Supreme Court's e-filing application. This application is able to process 99 percent of all that is needed, including digest calculation, real-time certificate validation using online certificate status protocol and time stamping on the server, using features provided by the software. It allows the Supreme Court to fully control the signing process and reject any unauthorized, revoked or expired certificates.
