Tucson International Airport police and fire personnel are organizing an exercise to test their preparedness in the event of a major disaster at Tucson International Airport.
Scheduled for March 26, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. -- 2:00 p.m., the drill will involve representatives from various public safety agencies as well as area hospitals. The exercise is also designed to test equipment including the GATEWAY radio frequency used by Pima County.
Required every three years by the Federal Aviation Administration, the purpose of the exercise is to test all aspects of the Airport Emergency Plan. Local actors, airport employees, and volunteers will simulate a scenario that includes "injured" bystanders (complete with makeup), and casualties.
Local airline managers and other TAA staff are participating in the event and the media is invited to attend -- either as participants or to cover the exercise.
