Utah Introduces JusticeXchange

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah implemented JusticeXchange, a real-time data network of county jail records. The Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice is partnering with Appriss to offer JusticeXchange as a resource to supplement Utah's Integrated Criminal Justice System (UCJIS).

JusticeXchange is built upon the Appriss Data Network, a privately managed integrated criminal justice network. Through the use of a JusticeXML-based application interface, JusticeXchange will provide the state's law enforcement officials with immediate access to information about offenders held in jails across the country.

By integrating JusticeXchange with the UCJIS system, law enforcement officials in Utah will be able to review previous booking information or post "watches" for individuals wanted for questioning.

"The JusticeXchange system will provide an excellent tool for Utah law enforcement officers. The ability to locate criminal violators is often the most challenging part of the investigative process," said Reed Richards, chair of the Utah Council on Victims of Crime and public relations coordinator for the Utah Sheriffs' Association. "Having access to information regarding incarcerated individuals in Utah and across the country will help solve many difficult cases and provide protection and justice to victims."
