Starting with the operator interface, the WEY “Smart Touch Keyboard”, users only need ONE HMI device to control and operate multiple workstations. With a single keyboard and mouse, they can move between applications that run on different PCs. The integrated touch screen of the keyboard expands the traditional keyboard layout with a set of quick access buttons to most frequently used software functions. With this expanded solution he user knows exactly what workstation he/she is currently connected to. In the menu on the keyboard LCD screen, the user can easily navigate to another workstation or application. If an application creates an alarm, the user can be informed on the keyboard to respond.

Operators may now access all their assigned workstations from any desk (free seating) and one keyboard. This includes the control of video walls, CCTV and access control systems. In combination with a WEY Distribution System(WDP) (KVM-Switch), the number of users can be increased as required. The data and video signals from remoted computers are switched via the WDP System and transmitted without loss of quality over structured cabling to the workplaces. This provides optimum control and flexibility.

In addition to user-friendliness, the WEY Smart Touch Keyboard is characterized by its adaptability to any environment. It can be expanded modularly, it is robust and fail-safe, and it can be tailored and programmed to meet customer specific requirements. Further, the Smart Touch can be deployed independent of operating system, computer type, interfaces and software platforms.

Distance restrictions from people working in different buildings are eliminated. The WDP core system (propriety control software) runs on two redundant WEY servers. This system manages which users can access which workstations after they login on their keyboard. For added security, it does not replace or bypass the initial login credentials needed to access the workstation. Biometrical identification devices, such as fingerprint readers can be connected to the WEY keyboard. Once the connection is authorized, the user can toggle between all assigned workstations.

The connections are made in real-time ‐ using ultrafast IP Remote transmitters and receivers. Unlike virtual machines (VM) the WEY WDP can connect Remote I/O devices. A standalone remote IP/IO device is available from WEY. In the unlikely event that bothe servers would become unavailable, the user still stays connected to his source. By replacing PCs under desks with an infinitively scalable, IP based network of workstations, that are hosted in secure system room, the WEY solution minimized the many challenges of the IT environment that exist.

The IT hardware is now much better protected against tampering, theft or sabotage. Malware, for example, is often transported on USB sticks or modified hard drives. Failover and redundancy, critical for airport operations, are built‐in with the WEY WDP solution.

In case of partial evacuations, operators can work from a remote failover site. IT teams can perform maintenance work in the system room and rarely need to disrupt operations. In the event of a PC error, users can switch to a backup device without the need of assistance from an administrator. Hosting the PCs in a secured system room instead of leaving them under the desks creates additional benefits: noise and heat in the work areas is dramatically reduced, lowering the risk of fatigue and stress related operator errors.
