One Chinese restaurant replaced its wait staff with what technology?

Answer: text messaging

Renrenxiang, a restaurant in Beijing, China, is using messaging app WeChat as its ordering service. Patrons receive an order number and wait for the kitchen to prepare their food. The kitchen then uses PA system to alert customers that their food is ready.

Though currently there are chefs cranking out orders in the kitchen, Renrenxiang restaurant founder Liu Zheng may do away with them too.

“There will be four ‘no’s’ in the restaurant — that is, no waitress, no cashier, no merchandiser and no chef,”  Zheng told CNN. “I did this because I’m following the technology development trend in China.”
