From 1967 through early 1970, broadcast journalist Walter Cronkite hosted a documentary called The 21st Century. During one episode, Cronkite gave a tour of the 21st Century Office.
The four components that he said would comprise this home office of the future were: a console that provides a summary of news relayed via satellite from all of the world; a machine to check the latest weather and stocks; a telephone (with video capabilities); and another machine to keep in touch with other rooms of the house via closed-circuit television.
“With equipment like this in the home of the future, we may not have to go to work," he said. "The work would come to us.”
