What technology helped a sea turtle recover from a shark attack?

Answer: prosthetic fins

In mid-2008, a 25-year-old loggerhead sea turtle was discovered by fishermen who noticed she was missing large portions of her two front fins, presumably from an assailment, Mashable reported.

The fishermen turned the turtle, named Hu, into Kobe, Japan's Suma Aqualife Park, where researchers experimented with 27 pairs of artificial limbs to try helping the injured animal. And they've finally found the right fit -- two rubber fins held together by a slip-over vest to prevent Hu from breaking free.

The fins have helped Hu -- who has a 32-inch long shell and 220-pound body -- swim just as easily as before the accident, the aquarium says.
