The device, called REMPARK, detects a patient’s walking cadence and pushes the information to the cloud for analysis. The data is intended to indicate the progress of the patient’s Parkinson’s, a disorder of the nervous system characterized by tremors, slowed movement, rigid muscles, impaired posture and balance, loss of unconscious movements like blinking, and speech changes. The makers of the device, now being tested by 50 patients, will issue a report on April 30 explaining how their creation can help those who suffer from Parkinson’s, a disease without a cure.
Famous people with Parkinson’s include actor Michael J. Fox, evangelist Billy Graham, former Attorney General Janet Reno and boxer Muhammad Ali.
