How long until cash is extinct?

Answer: perhaps a decade

According to one pundit – Professor Rabee Tourky, director of the Australian National University (ANU) Research School of Economic – cash could be completely phased out of use within 10 years in favor of alternatives like virtual currency, such as Bitcoin.

This semester, the ANU College of Business and Economics started incorporating virtual currency into its first-year money and banking course, wherein students learn the theory of digital currency.

"ANU economics students typically go into leadership roles, either in government or in the banking sector," Tourky told Phys.org. "In four or five years' time, they are going to be faced with these issues.”
