Which tropical nation recently launched its first free, public Wi-Fi network?

Answer: Cuba

A cultural center in Cuba, run by visual artist and government-affiliated Kcho, recently launched a free Wi-Fi connection for the public. The connection runs at a speed of 2 Mpbs, which doesn’t qualify as broadband, but a slow connection is better than none at all, Kcho said, especially in a nation that ranks among the worst-connected in the world when it comes to Internet access.

Google, meanwhile, has taken an interest in Cuba, meeting with officials to examine the potential for opportunities should the U.S. trade embargo be lifted.
