How many trees does an ex-NASA engineer expect to plant each year using drones?

Answer: 1 billion

In an effort to counter global deforestation, drone startup BioCarbon Engineering will attempt to seed 1 billion trees per year.

Company CEO and former NASA Engineer Lauren Fletcher said his company intends to seed from the sky to counter the annual 11 billion tree deficit. The method of seeding used by the drones doesn’t work as well as plating by hand, but it’s much faster, Fletcher said, which means they can plant 36,000 trees a day and at 15 percent of the usual cost.
