According to the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project, 70 percent of all cellphone owners and 86 percent of smartphone owners have used their phones in the previous 30 days to perform at least one of the following activities:

 

  • 41 percent of cellphone owners have coordinated a meeting or get-together.
  • 35 percent have solved an unexpected problem that they or someone else had encountered.
  • 30 percent have decided whether to visit a business, such as a restaurant.
  • 27 percent have found information to help settle an argument they were having.
  • 23 percent have looked up a score of a sporting event.
  • 20 percent have gotten up-to-the-minute traffic or public transit information to find the fastest way to get somewhere.
  • 19 percent have gotten help in an emergency situation
