Disney Research in Pittsburgh, part of the Walt Disney Company's commercial research arm, is working toward a new touch and gesture recognition platform called Touché that "proposes a novel Swept Frequency Capacitive Sensing technique that can not only detect a touch event, but also simultaneously recognize complex configurations of the human hands and body during touch interaction," according to the company.
According to PC World, "Disney imagines you could have a Touché-enabled living room where you sit down on your sofa and the TV automatically turns on. As you get more comfortable and lean back to enjoy the show, your living room lights would dim. And if you become so comfortable that you fall asleep, the sensors in your sofa would recognize this and shut down the TV for better rest."
