Technically, he didn't do it himself, but the residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW has solar panels on its roof once again, as the president attempts to lead by example. The U.S. Global Change Research Program, an organization created by a presidential initiative in 1989, released on May 6 the Third National Climate Assessment, following its direction from the president's Climate Action Plan (PDF).

In his second inaugural address issued in Jan. 2013, Obama told the public that "some may still deny the overwhelming judgment of science, but none can avoid the devastating impact of raging fires and crippling drought and more powerful storms. The path toward sustainable energy sources will be long and sometimes difficult. But America cannot resist this transition -- we must lead it."

The Third National Climate Assessment outlines the organization's most recent conclusions regarding climate change. "The global warming of the past 50 years is primarily due to human activities, predominantly the burning of fossil fuels," one report highlight reads. The full report, complete with charts, maps and interactive graphs, can be explored in detail, or users can get the short version by viewing report highlights. Before Obama, President Carter was the last president to install solar panels on the roof of the White House in 1979. President Reagan had the panels removed in 1986.
