Since the end of March, how many apps has Facebook suspended for potentially misusing personal data?

Answer: 200.

On March 21, following the revelation that Cambridge Analytica was harvesting data from Facebook users, the social media company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company would be undertaking an app audit. Since then, Facebook has been investigating any applications that have access to large amounts of its data.

In a statement released Monday on its Newsroom platform, Facebook provided an update on its progress. According to the statement, “to date thousands of apps have been investigated and around 200 have been suspended.” These applications will be subjected to further review to determine if they did in fact misuse users’ personal data. The statement also provides a link to a website where users can check if any of these apps were found to have improperly handled their data, just like they could for Cambridge Analytica.
