Google Trends now tracks statistics for emojis, which are posted on each icon’s Emojipedia page. The resulting graphs show when interest in any emoji — on any platform (Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, etc.) — peaked in the last five years, and how its popularity changed.
Visit an emoji’s page on Emojipedia, scroll down to the “Trends” button, and see Google’s graph of the Internet’s interest in that symbol over time. “Interest” refers to how often people search for the emoji on Google, and the graph is relative to the emoji — 100 represents when that emoji had its peak.
For example, the pile of poo hit its peak this past January, while the doughnut has slowly grown in popularity. The fax machine remains an all-around loser.
