Why does the National Park Service run PuppyCam?

Answer: so people can keep an eye on the service’s young canine rangers

PuppyCam is a live webcam run by the National Park Service that allows anyone to watch young sled dog puppies grow up.

The camera is turned on each year as the puppies approach four weeks of age, and is then turned off when the puppies become large enough to leave the maternity pen. When the puppies aren’t sleeping, they can be found wrestling and testing the bounds of propriety with their mother and siblings.

The dogs are raised by the park service because sledding is an effective means of patrolling the wilderness and without dogs to pull them, sleds move very slowly.
