A new tool developed by MIT researchers may help identify what summertime events before they happen?

Answer: power outages

An algorithm developed by researchers at MIT was able to identify in tests points of failure in a power grid that could lead to cascading blackouts -- a commonality each summer as homes and businesses crank up the AC.

As Phys.org reported, the algorithm "prunes" all the possible combinations down to the pairs most likely to cause widespread damage, and is being touted for its speed and accuracy.
