Which big-box chain is making 3-D printing mainstream by selling the devices in their stores?

Answer: Home Depot

3-D printers by MakerBot will be sold in 12 Home Depot stores in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Chicago as part of a pilot program. MakerBot kiosks will showcase the technology and be staffed by a worker who can explain how the product works. Home Depot will sell the MakerBot Replicator Mini Compact 3D Printer ($1,375), MakerBot Replicator Desktop 3D Printer ($2,899) and MakerBot PLA Filament.
