According to an Aug. 12 report from the RAND Corp., Chicago’s predictive policing pilot was not effective at reducing homicide. The predictive policing model works based on the creation of a Strategic Subjects List, which includes people thought to be at highest risk for gun violence. Based on the pilot, however, people on the list were not found to be more or less likely to become a victim or perpetrator in a homicide shooting. Analysis by the city found similar results, according to RAND.
