Built sometime between late 1976 and early 1977, an Apple I computer
will be auctioned off at a live-bid event by RR Auction on Sept. 25. The Apple I was the first personal computing device created in the 1970s by Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs. It was originally designed as a bare-board kit computer for hobbyists to assemble themselves.
However, that changed when Jobs successfully sold 50 Apple Is to a Byte-Shop in Mountain View, Calif., on the condition that they arrive already assembled. Jobs and Wozniak ended up assembling 200 units by hand, 175 of which they sold before launching the Apple II — the device that helped make personal computers a staple of homes and businesses.
This particular Apple I has been fully restored but has not been modified like most other vintage Apple I computers.
