What is the latest way to operate The Boring Co.’s machines?

Answer: With an Xbox controller.

Xbox video game controllers have proven themselves to be rather adept at controlling more than just images on a screen. Just last year, the U.S. Navy revealed that the devices would be used to control the periscopes on its newest class of submarine. And now Elon Musk’s The Boring Co. is kicking it up a notch.

In a video posted to Twitter Sept. 8, The Boring Co. showed off an Xbox controller being used to operate one of its new tunneling machines. The company will be putting these machines to use underneath areas including Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., digging tunnels for underground transit. It is currently unclear whether the Xbox controllers will be used to run the machines when they’re actually digging.
