Which state began using facial recognition software on driver’s license photos earlier this year?

Answer: Ohio

The decision to use facial recognition software was revealed months after the fact, leading privacy groups and citizens to cry foul since the state didn’t tell the public how their photos were being used. Attorney General Mike DeWine reportedly explained the decision by saying that he didn’t think the public needed to be notified about the new technology since 26 other states also have facial recognition databases. Since the news became public, DeWine has assembled a team of judges, prosecutors and law enforcement officials to decide how the system should be used.
