Airbus plans to launch what new service within the next year?

Answer: its CityAirbus flying taxi service.

Following successful ground tests of its electric power system, CityAirbus — Airbus’ flying taxi service — confirmed this week that it is on track to launch its service within 2018.

The airborne taxi has a four-rotor design and is capable of carrying up to four passengers at a top speed of 80 mph over short distances. Airbus envisions the CityAirbus taxis being used to relieve ground traffic congestion by carrying passengers on predetermined routes between major transport hubs within urban areas.

While the crafts would be operated by human pilots for the time being, Airbus has designed them to be capable of going fully automatic — once the technology is developed.
