What did someone print with a 3-D printer this time?

Answer: a human liver

by News Staff / November 14, 2013

Organovo used a 3-D printer to create a liver from stem cells that can survive for 40 days, an improvement over the company’s attempt in April, which yielded a liver that survived for five days. One impediment to longer organ survival is the difficulty of including blood vessels in the design. One goal of the project is to deliver synthetic human liver slices to scientists so they can test products on human organs without the need of human donors.
