How is Uber hoping to get the upper hand in artificial intelligence?

Answer: by acquiring an AI startup

Uber, the company famous for popularizing ride sharing, announced in a blog post that it has acquired Geometric Intelligence, a 2-year-old artificial intelligence startup.

In the same post, ‎Uber Chief Product Officer Jeff Holden also announced the creation of Uber AI Labs, a new division of the company that is “dedicated to cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence and machine learning.”

The machine learning capabilities could help determine optimal routes for UberEATS, ensuring meals will stay hot and fresh, or be used to help autonomous vehicles navigate through busy streets.
