What animal is the mascot for a recent launch of U.S. satellites to be used for dragnet surveillance?

Answer: the octopus

The Office of National Intelligence (ODNI) shared the Atlas V mission patch on Twitter. The patch features a giant yellow cartoon octopus sucking on the Earth above the words “nothing is beyond our reach.” As one Forbes writer put it, the sentiment is a bit “tone deaf” given the current public sentiment about mass surveillance following the Snowden leaks and other news of the NSA’s spying activity.
