Today in 1997, an episode of the cartoon Pokémon, entitled "Electric Soldier Porygon," was broadcast in Japan and never aired again. Why?

.

Answer:

The episode never aired again because the first broadcast caused 685 people to be hospitalized for seizures. During one scene in the episode, a full-screen explosion is animated using red and blue flashes that led many viewers to feel nausea and dizziness and, in some cases, caused some viewers to suffer seizures. The so-called "Pokémon Shock" led to new guidelines for animated children's programs.
