Vermont becomes second state to adopt digital watermarking in driver's licenses.

BURLINGTON, Mass. -- Digimarc ID Systems LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Digimarc Corp. announced that the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles will deploy digital watermarking as a new layer of security in its next-generation digital driver's license.

In March, Vermont awarded Digimarc ID Systems a four-year contract to supply the state with a new digital licensing system. Under the contract, Digimarc ID Systems is providing a number of advanced security enhancements to Vermont's system, including digital watermarking and other covert security features.

"Vermont's adoption of digital watermarking, together with a number of other proprietary security features in the Digimarc portfolio, puts the state on the leading edge of driver license security," said Paul Gifford, president and COO of Digimarc. He continued, "The adoption of digital watermarking in driver licenses, now in both Vermont and in New Jersey as announced last week, is a key milestone and further evidence of Digimarc's leadership in providing state-of-the-art, secure personal identification solutions."

"We are committed to enhancing the security of our state driver license to help fight fraud and provide the citizens of Vermont with a highly secure form of identification," said Bonnie Rutledge, commissioner, Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles. "Together with Digimarc, we are pleased to be taking a leadership position through our use of innovative, new security features."
