California Web Site Includes "Kids Corner"

New site highlights the state's efforts to provide safe, kid-friendly information designed for parents, teens and young children.

After a successful collaboration with Google to map many of the state's resources on the California Web site, the State and Consumer Services Agency has launched Kids Corner -- a Web site created for kids and families. Kids Corner connects children and families to the State of California's kid-friendly Web sites and continues to further Governor Schwarzenegger's ongoing commitment to make government effective and accessible for all Californians. Kids Corner can be found at: www.ca.gov/HomeFamily/JustForKids.html.

"Families nowadays are naturally concerned about children using the Internet as a research tool with the many dangers that they can encounter while using the Internet for school work or to connect with friends," said Rosario Marin, Secretary of the State and Consumer Services Agency. "I'm excited to launch Kids Corner at this year's Summit because this Web site is a great example of the summit's goals."

The links that are connected to Kids Corner can help with homework, suggest family outings to one of California's world-renowned museums, or help young people access our state's history -- all without worrying about the content they will encounter.

The new Web site will offer links to arts facilities, state history, nutrition and fitness information and many other family-friendly subjects.

Each Web site accessed through Kids Corner was either created by a state or federal government agency as a way for government to reach out to young people. In addition, Kids Corner provides access to educational and child-appropriate games and activities.
