Florida Deploys Integrated Criminal History System

Database to contain criminal history and fingerprint information.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) needed to streamline its various systems and their functions. FDLE has begun designing a modern integrated criminal history system (ICHS) for Florida.

The FDLE ICHS will integrate several functions currently handled through multiple non-interoperable systems, and provide for increased system speed and capacity. Science Applications International Corp. will develop and field a single system, running a database combining both criminal history information and fingerprint information, which is designed to significantly enhance law enforcement access to timely, vital information.

FDLE Interim Commissioner Daryl McLaughlin said, "This system will provide enhanced accessibility of critical criminal justice information to Florida criminal justice agencies including expert fingerprint matching for rapid identification, improved disposition information with arrests and new rap sheet presentations, including facial images, in addition to providing access to a wide variety of useful data sources."

An integrated development environment (IDE) is designed to provide FDLE officials and all members of the development team with near real-time, desktop access to program information and progress. The fully operational version of the system is scheduled to be completed by December 2005.

FDLE has selected a new commissioner, Guy Tunnell, who will assume his new post on October 1.
