Montana Convict info now Online

Information on convicted criminals in Montana is now available to anyone with an Internet connection through a new search system created by the Montana Department of Corrections.

HELENA, Mont. - Information on convicted criminals in Montana is now available to anyone with an Internet connection through a new search system created by the Montana Department of Corrections.

The Correctional Offender Network (CON), located at www.cor.state.mt.us, facilitates a search for information adults who have been convicted of felonies using criteria such as a name or adult offender number. The search will return a list of possible matches, from which the user can locate a complete report. The reports contain physical characteristics on the subject such as locations of scars, marks or tattoos and photos of the subject, if they are available.

"Development of e-government services like this provides our citizens with direct and immediate access to information they can use," said Gov. Judy Martz.

The CON database contains key information on felony convictions only. It is designed as a supplement to the VINE (Victim Information Notification Everyday) systems that provides victims with the current status of inmate activity.

CON is a result of an alliance between state government and the private sector. The system was cooperatively developed and is supported by the Montana Department of Corrections, the Montana Department of Administration's Information Technology Services Division and Montana Interactive, a subsidiary of NIC.
