NASCIO Urges State Participation in Data Privacy Day

The states of Arizona, California, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oregon and Washington will participate in the event.

On January 28, 2009, the United States, Canada, and 27 European countries will celebrate the second annual Data Privacy Day, to raise awareness and generate discussion about data privacy practices and rights in the U.S. and internationally. U.S.-based activities have included privacy professionals, corporations, government officials and representatives academics, and students across the country. NASCIO said in a release that many state privacy and security programs and attorneys general have joined this effort, and urged other states to consider promoting privacy awareness through participation.

Resources that would assist states in preparing proclamations expressing support for Privacy Day may be found online. Arizona, California, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oregon and Washington will participate in the event.
