New Chair

Thornberry appointed as Chairman of Cyber security Subcommittee

WASHINGTON, DC -- Entrust a leading provider of Internet security solutions and services to governments and enterprises, today applauded the appointment of U.S. Representative Mac Thornberry (R-TX) as chairman of an essential House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Cyber Security, Science, Research and Development.

Representative Thornberry, who is also a member of the Armed Services Committee, the Budget Committee, and the Resources Committee, is widely noted for his influence on national defense issues and his bold efforts to create a single federal agency to oversee the government's piecemeal approach to homeland security.

"Representative Thornberry has long been a strong supporter of issues crucial to our nation's homeland security," said Bill Conner, chairman, CEO and president of Entrust, which is based in Addison, TX. "As chairman of this important subcommittee, he is positioned to serve as an even more valuable advocate of policies affecting our critical infrastructures, our economy and our citizens."

The House Homeland Security Committee, headed by Chairman Christopher Cox (R-CA), recently created five subcommittees devoted to cybersecurity, border security, emergency preparedness, counterterrorism, and internal oversight. The cybersecurity subcommittee is charged with setting the legislative agenda on federal cyber security policies and agency initiatives to secure government and private network infrastructures. The subcommittee's minority chair will be U.S. Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), a congressional leader on technology issues.

"We look forward to working with Representative Thornberry in his new role as Chairman and serving as a government partner in helping to strengthen the nation's cyber, economic and homeland security," continued Conner.

Entrust is a leading Federal partner on Internet security initiatives, having deployed cyber security solutions in more than 50 Federal departments and agencies, including DOE, USDA, Treasury, FDIC, NASA, USPTO and more. Entrust's public key infrastructure (PKI) technology powers the Federal Bridge Certificate Authority (FBCA), or Federal Bridge, which enables Federal agencies to securely communicate and share information. Entrust also serves as the PKI technology provider to three out of the four agencies that are currently interoperable via the Federal Bridge (Treasury, USDA and NASA).
