Oklahoma's Homeland Security Web Site Sends E-Mail Alerts

The e-mail updates notify subscribers as terrorism threat level changes.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma's new Homeland Security Web site offers online access to local and national homeland security information.

The Web site is the first state homeland security site to offer e-mail updates to the public as the state and national threat levels change, state officials said. The service is available through computers, cellular phones, pagers, personal digital assistants and any other device with e-mail capabilities.

"It will be only through the combined efforts of all state entities, working in conjunction with federal and local governments as well as with the citizens of Oklahoma, that we will be able to provide adequate assurance that we are maximizing our ability to provide security to the state," said Bob Ricks, Director for the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security.

Early next year, officials said, a new feature of the site will allow first-response vendors to enroll online and identify the services they provide. The portal also provides a set of links to national and state homeland security-related Web sites, including the Centers for Disease Control, the Office for Domestic Preparedness, the American Red Cross and the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety.

The site is the result of a partnership between the Oklahoma Office of Homeland Security and YourOklahoma, the official state Web site managed by NIC.
