While the Secretary of State’s Office said the breach did not expose the voter registration database or reveal any credit card information, the intrusion raised security concerns, and the Oregon State Police are investigating what appears to be an attack by a foreign entity, according to a notice on the site.
More than a week later, the two databases are still offline, while a forensics exam proceeds, and the notice says the online services will return “as quickly as possible.” The notice goes on to say that the office is working to make sure the intrusion can’t be repeated. The outage has caused frustration and added expense for those wishing to submit campaign finance reports and business filings online.
