Facial recognition system will scan visitors to House of Corrections.

LITTLETON, --Viisage Technology announced today that its FaceFINDER(TM) solution has been purchased by the Massachusetts' Middlesex County Sheriff's Office from a collaboration between Viisage, IBM and Metatomix.

The state-of-the-art deployment will include installations at Boston-area Middlesex House of Corrections at Billerica and at the Cambridge (MA) Superior Courthouse. The system at the Cambridge Superior Courthouse is intended to help authorities identify wanted offenders, potential security threats and known terrorists who enter the building - often to visit associates during court appearances or jailed associates; additionally the system will help to safeguard court house personnel and the general public who utilize the courthouse on a daily basis.

Sheriff James V. DiPaola, Sheriff of Middlesex County, Massachusetts and President of the Massachusetts Sheriffs Association said, "Our public servants, whether they be corrections officers, judges, court personnel or jurors, deserve protection from the complex dangers facing our society today."

The Billerica system will help to support the security components, already built into the House of Corrections, and act as another layer of security during a modernization project that will be bringing approximately 175-200 construction workers into the facility each day. The facial recognition system at the Billerica House of Corrections will scan visitors then compare the information against the databases from the Middlesex Sheriff's Office and other Law Enforcement Agencies.
