Wristwatch Helps Keep Kids Safe

Tiny GPS locator enables parents to track their kids even when they're out of sight.

By equipping children with a wristwatch that contains a tiny GPS locator, parents can keep track of their kids even when they are out of sight.

The wristwatch, developed by a company called Wherify Wireless, contains a pager, a panic button that can alert police and the tiny GPS locator. Parents can sign onto an Internet portal and track the location of their child. The process of locating a child takes about a minute and is accurate to within a couple of feet.

"We really look at it as a personal alarm system for the child," said Wherify Wireless president Timothy Neher, who said the watch can't be removed from the child without setting off an alarm. The watch will automatically send a signal to those who are monitoring it that it's been tampered with.
