What Does Facebook Data Reveal About Indiana Voters Leading Up to the Primary?

Facebook said the data is not intended to be predictive of the election’s outcome but reflective of the conversation Indiana is having on social media.

(TNS) -- As unsurprising as it sounds, Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton are the two most talked about presidential candidates for Indiana Facebook users, according to data released Monday by the social media corporation.

The data shows 689,000 Hoosiers discussing Trump on Facebook in April and 367,000 for Clinton. Those talking about Trump accounted for 5,325,000 interactions – likes, posts, comments, shares – to Clinton’s 2,476,000. The data includes negative and positive content.

Other candidates mentioned in the data include Clinton’s Democratic opponent Bernie Sanders with 318,000 discussions and 1,922,000 interactions, and Trump’s Republican opponents Ted Cruz with 239,000 discussions and 1,327,000 interactions and John Kasich with 80,000 discussions and 318,000 discussions.

Facebook said the data is not intended to be predictive of the election’s outcome but reflective of the conversation Indiana is having on social media.

Also listed in the data are the top five issues resonating in Indiana on Facebook:

  1. Jobs
  2. Christianity
  3. Transgender issues
  4. Gender Equality
  5. Guns
Indiana voters will head to the polls for the state’s primary election Tuesday.
