According to local media, Park Rangers and guides will continue providing historical information and tours to visitors. Now tablets are another option.
The iPads available to visitors are each equipped with an app that provides do-it-yourself tours; visitors can read and listen to information that’s been prerecorded by the rangers. Through the new free-to-download app – NPS Boston – visitors can access historical site information, image galleries and maps.
“This is the only National Park where visitors can use this iPad-based (guide),” said Sean Hennessey, a spokesman for the National Park Service. “You can find out how to get to the Paul Revere House, the Old South Meeting House or Newbury Street.”
According to the news report, the app, currently available on iOS platforms, integrates geolocation to provide turn-by-turn directions for tourists.
