Arlington County today unveiled its new, state-of-the-art Emergency Communications Center (ECC). The County will officially begin receiving incoming 9-1-1 calls in the new ECC on Tuesday, May 20.

The new Emergency Communications Center is the first significant upgrade since 1993 and brings advanced technology and enhanced capabilities to Arlington. The ECC accommodates a new, critically important digital radio system which includes interoperability features, enabling Arlington's first responders to better communicate with emergency partners throughout the region - local, state and federal.

"The expansion and improvement of the ECC is important to meet the ever-increasing demands for emergency services," said J. Walter Tejada, chairman of the Arlington County Board. "Arlington is committed to providing excellent public safety services for those who live, work, play and visit the county."

The ECC is part of Arlington's Office of Emergency Management, which was created in 2003 to provide the highest level of emergency preparedness for residents, employees and visitors. The new center includes more 9-1-1 lines, digital monitors, improved work conditions and energy efficient equipment.
