Despite the tough times, the world of public-sector IT doesn't stand still. That's why Government Technology is hosting two special events just for public CIOs who want to learn, network and recognize the good work of their peers.

On Feb. 25 and 26, the California Public Sector CIO Academy will take place at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel in Sacramento, Calif. The two-day program includes the annual awards event, which honors the exceptional achievements of California's technology leaders and also serves to help government CIOs hone their business skills and network with other CIOs and industry leaders.

One speaker at the event will be David E. Sanger, chief Washington correspondent for The New York Times. A recent Government Technology article describes Sanger's speech in Tucson on the new administration's impact on state and local governments.

Other guest speakers include prize-winning author Neal Gabler, Ironman champion and coach Mark Allen and inventor Woody Norris. The 2009 Academy will offer a variety of sessions, including Leadership and the Public CIO, Governing in a 2.0 World, and Privacy and Security.

The program involves bestowing the "NY Public Sector CIO of the Year" award, and also provides a networking opportunity for CIOs.

The keynote speaker for the event will be David Pogue, personal-technology columnist for The New York Times, Emmy award-winning tech correspondent for CBS News, and best-selling author.
