New Mexico's statewide court system includes the State Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court and all of the state's district and magistrate courts. Approximately 300 judges preside in courtrooms throughout the state, with a statewide communications network connecting all the sites. Looking to replace its aging Cisco routers, the New Mexico Courts needed a flexible, cost-effective all-in-one branch office firewall/router.
"We considered using Cisco 2600 routers or a Juniper firewall and VPN but both of those fell short in some key areas," said Sam Noble, senior network system administrator, New Mexico Courts. "I downloaded and tested the Vyatta software and found that it gave me all the features and functionality I needed, great performance and, hands down, the most flexible system around. After test-driving the software, I knew I had found the ideal solution in the Vyatta open networking appliance."
Vyatta provided functionality that including Border Gateway Protocol, VPN concentrator, URL filtering, and packet capture. Most importantly, the support offered by Vyatta provided the court system with the confidence that if an issue arose, there would be several ways to address it.
