Chicago Housing Authority Begins High-Speed Internet Pilot

March 18, 2004 By

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) has embarked on its Plan for Transformation, a multiyear, multibillion dollar program to rebuild and modernize the nation's third-largest public housing system. Overall, the CHA is redeveloping and rehabilitating 25,000 apartments for families and senior citizens throughout the Chicago area.

The CHA has partnered with Telkonet Inc. and Anteon Corp. to conduct a joint field trial of Telkonet's powerline networking system for potential deployment across Chicago's extensive public housing program. Anteon will be providing IT installation and engineering design services for the project.

The purpose of the trial is to test the features of Telkonet's rapidly deployable powerline networking and Internetworking environment by utilizing a CHA building's existing electrical wiring to deliver fast, reliable high-speed Internet access to authority administrators and residents throughout the city.

As the CHA continues to modernize the 25,000 apartments currently under its management, Telkonet's products can support the authority's efforts to bring affordable high-speed Internet access to a vast majority of its properties and residents.
