DA Candidate on Electronic Monitoring

City has nearly 800 people on such monitors as they await trial.

Mike Untermeyer, candidate for Philadelphia District Attorney, had himself fitted with a GPS ankle bracelet. Visitors to his campaign Web site can track his location 24 hours a day. Untermeyer said the move was intended to illustrate that electronic monitoring of offenders could save the city considerable money while protecting public safety. According to an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer, the city has nearly 800 people on such monitors as they await trial.
