South Carolina Goes Mobile with State Parks Website

June 26, 2012 By

The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism launched last week a mobile version of its State Parks website as a response to increased mobile traffic. Between April 2011 and April 2012, mobile traffic increased 176 percent, according to a press release from the department.

“We recognized growing consumer preference for browsing the Internet from smartphones, Droids and all things mobile, and we decided to give them what they want,” said Duane Parrish, director of the department. “Our mobile platform presents park information in a more simplified way, much more suitable for the smaller screens found on these devices.”

Content on the mobile site includes a “park finder,” Google Maps directions, reservation functionality, detailed park contact information, associated park content and a searchable event database. Mobile users visiting SouthCarolinaParks.com will be routed to the mobile version of the website.
